Kirton ist ein US-amerikanischer Wissenschaftler und der Entwickler des "Kirton's Adaption Innovation Inventory (KAI)", eines Profiling-Instruments zur Ermittlung des bevorzugten konitiven bzw. persönlichen Entscheidungsstils bezogen auf kreative Prozesse; er prägte außerdem die Begrifflichkeiten adaptive vs. radikale Kreativität.
